The 5 inch 127mm omni-directional wheel is unique in that, like all Omni-Wheels, it offers 360° movement as well as rotational and lateral manoeuvrability. The wheel's tread consists of rollers whose axes of rotation are at a 90° angle to the wheel's axis of rotation. This makes it possible to move the wheel in the axial direction of rotation. The 5inch 127mm omni-directional wheel is unique in that it offers 360° movement as well as rotational and lateral manoeuvrability. As with all Omni-Wheels, the tread of this Omni-Wheel consists of rollers whose axes of rotation are at a 90° angle to the axis of rotation of the wheel. This makes it possible to move the wheel in the axial direction of rotation. The biggest advantage of an Omni-Wheel is that a vehicle with four Omni-Wheels can move in practically any direction without having to change the orientation of the chassis. With very little noise, this type of wheel can move stably and flexibly during operation. Since the Omni Wheel is based on omni-directional drive technology, they can be used to freely control a robot in extremely confined spaces. The Omni Wheels also allow a robot with non-holonomic constraints to be transformed into a holonomic robot that can master lateral movement instead of only 2 out of 3 controllable degrees of freedom (forward/backward movement and rotation).
