The (6 inch) 152mm omni-directional wheels are therefore unique in that they can travel in any direction. As with all Omni-Wheels, the wheel's tread consists of rollers whose axes of rotation are at right angles to the wheel's axis of rotation. This makes it possible to move the wheel in the axial direction of rotation. The greatest advantage of an Omni-Wheel is that a vehicle with four Omni-Wheels can move in practically any direction without having to change the orientation of the chassis. With very low noise, this type of wheel can move stably and flexibly during operation. The Omni Wheels make it possible to transform a robot with non-holonomic constraints into a holonomic robot. The difference is that a robot with non-holonomic constraints uses normal wheels and therefore has only 2 out of 3 controllable degrees of freedom: Forward/backward movement and rotation. This means that lateral movement is missing, which makes the robot slower and thus less efficient.
